Reformer Pilates is a great form of strength, postural, flexibility, balance and endurance training. It is done on an apparatus that allows one to perform pushing, pulling, resistance and balance exercises in multiple planes.
Exercises can be done lying down, sitting, standing, pulling the straps, pushing the footbar, perched on the footbar, perched on the shoulder blocks, with additional equipment, upside down, sideways, and all kinds of variations. In other words, the reformer can train the body in many ways with just one relatively sleek piece of equipment. Reformer Pilates classes can be specialized depending on the participant's needs and goals.
The rehab reformer classes are geared to those who are recovering from an injury, surgery, childbirth and for those looking to prevent injury. The focus of these classes are on activating your stabilizers effectively before movement. We focus on neuromuscular re-education and proper movement patterns. Anyone can benefit from these dynamic classes as they reinforce the way we were made to move.
The classes are done on the reformer machine allow multi-planar movements to mimic everyday movements. The movement patterns learned in these classes are meant to translate into everyday life making everyday tasks easier and pain free.
Performance Yoga uses yoga postures (asanas) to build strength, mobility, stability and flexibility. Each class combines both dynamic movements and static holds creating a vigorous workout that will get your blood flowing and heart pumping. Every class includes breathing exercises and mindfulness techniques to increase proprioception and body awareness.
Similar to Pilates, barre work encourages full breathing and core support, coordination and a wide range of movement dynamics (i.e. fast and slow twitch muscle fibre activity). It develops long, lean musculature without bulk. Drawing from contemporary dance and ballet training and accompanied by recored music, barre class adds fun and an expressive element to your workout. Furthermore, this type of training is ideal for keeping both mind and body connected and tuned up!
